This print comes from a life lesson my dad taught me about the importance of throwing the pizza.
One day, I was on the phone with him while carrying a pizza home for dinner. He asked me if I was carrying the pizza with both hands, and laughing at the question, I said “Of course!” He became extremely serious and told me, “If anything happens, like if anyone tries to grab you, THROW THE PIZZA! In life, we often try to hang onto the materialistic and whatever is in our hands, but you need to know, it's NOT worth it compared to your life! THROW THE PIZZA!” While I understood the moral of the lesson, I realized the contents of it made for an excellent, whimsical illustration.
This is still one of my favourite prints to date and it is especially more special that it is one that can't ever be recreated because of its process, where each layer gets carved into and can't be printed again.
Reduction linocut, 3 layers, 22x15”
